Cameron History

Cameron Hospital has a long tradition of providing high-quality healthcare services to the people of Steuben County and surrounding communities. Through the years, we have helped generation after generation enjoy better health and live comfortably, as our hospital continues to serve the medical needs of our community.

Hospital Origins

At one time, Angola had two hospitals. The first was founded in 1926 by Dr. Don F. Cameron, while the second, known as Elmhurst, was established by Dr. Lester L. Eberhart in 1945. Eventually, in 1972, the two hospitals merged into one hospital—Cameron Memorial Community Hospital, which was located at its current site of 416 East Maumee Street in Angola, Indiana.

Cameron Today

Today, Cameron Hospital is a modern, thriving hospital featuring the latest technology and advanced equipment. Not-for-profit community hospital, Cameron is focused on providing quality healthcare for Steuben County and the surrounding areas.

DNV Accreditation

In 2023, Cameron Memorial Community Hospital achieved DNV accreditation. Earning this accreditation demonstrates meets or exceeds patient safety standards (Conditions of Participation) set forth by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

At Cameron, it is our mission to improve the quality of life for those we serve. One way we can demonstrate our commitment to high-quality, innovative, and individualized care is through accreditation.

Critical Access

Cameron Memorial is identified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) that provides essential healthcare services to an underserved population. As a CAH, Cameron is one of just a handful that remain independent within the State of Indiana.

With a rich history in Steuben County, Cameron is committed to doing whatever it takes to serve our patients and neighbors from throughout the region. We offer a wide-array of hospital and outpatient services. This includes hospital-based care for those needing inpatient, family birthing, surgical care and more. We also offer several specialty care options to compliment our family medicine team including gastroenterology, orthopedics and cardiology. With nearly two dozen specialty care options, Cameron strives to meet your needs as best it can within the community and minimizing any need to drive to larger cities for healthcare.
