Total Joint Replacement
Total joint replacement is performed when arthritis or other degenerative changes occur and result in limitations of movement and pain or discomfort. During the procedure, the surgeon removes the damaged parts of the joint and replaces them with an artificial joint, called a "prosthesis." The prosthesis is designed to move much like a normal joint.
Cameron provides comprehensive preoperative and postoperative services for total hip and total knee replacement patients. A multidisciplinary team of specialists, including physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and case managers work together to provide a full complement of patient services including:
• Preoperative Education Class (Joint Camp)
• Advance Planning for the hospital stay and post-hospital care
• On-site rehabilitation including physical and occupational therapy
As part of its preoperative education, Cameron will be offering "Joint Camp." The goal of joint replacement surgery is to relieve pain, restore independence, and return patients to active participation in daily activities. Joint Camp is an innovative educational program that helps patients achieve this goal by emphasizing wellness and maximizing patients' recovery efforts. In Joint Camp, patients will specifically learn about the total procedure from preparation through recovery, including; how to prepare for surgery; anesthesia options; the recovery process; pain management; physical and occupational therapy; and follow-up care.
After surgery, Cameron is not only able to offer traditional physical and occupational therapy, but also inpatient rehabilitation through the Swing Bed program. The goal of the Swing Bed program is to provide short-term rehabilitation, allowing patients to attain independent ability with activities of daily living and mobility in an inpatient setting.
