038-29 Physical Therapist - Physical Therapy
PHYSICAL THERAPIST, 80 hours bi-weekly, (weekend rotation)
REPORTS TO: Director of Rehabilitation
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Conducts patient evaluations, structures physical therapy program, and provides treatment for medically referred patients. May supervise rehabilitation aide, physical therapist assistants, and students. Accepts responsibility for safety and well being of the patient during treatment. Accurately completes all required documentation. Evaluates and treats all patients referred for physical therapy.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
1. Exemplifies good customer service.

4. Demonstrate proficient use of email.
5. Evaluation and treatment of all patients referred for physical therapy, which may include inpatients and outpatients.
a. Receives and interprets physician orders.
b. Determines possible contraindications to prescribed treatment.
c. Establishes all treatment programs.
d. Establishes treatment goals.
e. Administers treatments, using accepted standards of practice, to patients utilizing neurodevelopmental techniques, muscle reeducation, gait training, massage, soft tissue mobilization, hydrocollator packs, ice, paraffin baths, whirlpools, diathermy, ultrasound, traction, and electricity to decrease pain and increase function.
f. Instructs patients in use of crutches, canes, braces, prosthesis, splints, wheelchairs on level and environmental surfaces, to increase independence in activities of daily living. Instructs in exercise programs for restoration of joint and muscle function.
g. Instructs families or caregivers in exercise programs, transfer techniques, and activities of daily living.
h. Discusses patient treatment, care, and progress with physician.
I. Documents evaluation results, treatment plans, goals, and maintains daily progress notes and upon completion of treatment, summarizes progress, treatment and expectations in discharge summary.
j. May perform aquatic therapy, wound care, vestibular rehab, treatment for lymphedema and pediatric therapies. Additional therapy training may be assigned as needed.
6. Actively participates in management of the department.
a. Is responsible for making determination of possible noncoverage by Medicare and informing the patient before treatment begins.
b. Is responsible for all patients
1. Must be a graduate of an accredited physical therapy program.
2. Must be currently licensed as a physical therapist in the State of Indiana.
3. Must be C.P.R. certified.
4. Must be eligible for National Registration examination of the A.P.T.A. and pass after a maximum of 2 attempts.
