Students

Cameron believes strongly in supporting local students and aspiring health care workers through opportunities to see our facilities and meet our providers. From our administrators and support staff to our providers and nurses, we all started as students. We recognize what an enriching experience it can be for students to see health care providers firsthand in their element. That’s why we provide a range of opportunities for students.

Opportunities for Students

We welcome students at various stages of workforce readiness, including local high school, as well as college students pursuing health care careers. Through opportunities for job shadowing, on-site visits and hands-on learning, we strive to inspire the next generation of health care workers.

Health Occupations Education Program

For Angola High School students enrolled in the district’s Health Occupations Education (HOE) program, we provide opportunities for students to visit our facilities and get an early glimpse into what a health care career might hold. As one of our hometown educational institutions, many Cameron employees and patients once walked the halls of Angola High School. We’ve built a strong partnership with local students through the school’s HOE program.

Clinical Partnerships

Cameron offers clinical experiences for students who are pursuing programs to become physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, EMTs and radiology technicians, among other roles. We recognize that providing shadowing experiences for these roles is critically important for future generations of health care providers.

Education and Innovation Center

Nurses are an invaluable component of our health care system. We recognize that providing exceptional training opportunities for nurses, as well as students interested in pursuing nursing careers, is the first step to meeting our community’s growing health care needs. The Cameron Education and Innovation Center is designed to do just that. The state-of-the-art facility provides access to health education and training close to home. Through a partnership with Trine University, the Center houses Trine’s new health science program. This partnership will attract students and nurses to Steuben County by offering a state-of-the-art education that combines on-campus learning opportunities with accelerated acclimation to health care environments. One of the learning opportunities offered is healthcare simulations. University healthcare students and Cameron employees alike are provided with simulation opportunities in pediatrics, obstetrics, medical-surgical and emergency medicine presented by Certified Healthcare Simulation Education faculty. These simulations are designed to improve patient outcomes and maintain high-quality patient care.

Educational Classes

Cameron offers a wide range of educational classes available to students and local community members. Our education team puts on a range of classes designed to improve community health and knowledge. From first aid and CPR classes to Stop the Bleed courses and initiatives geared specifically toward students, Cameron is proud to provide residents and community members with opportunities to expand their skills and interests. Our educational classes include the following:

First Aid

The first aid course offered at Cameron is designed to teach participants the hands-on skills necessary to help individuals in need. These classes include lectures and skills training, along with time for discussion with a licensed instructor.

CPR

As it is one of the most critical lifesaving skills, Cameron is proud to offer a CPR class to help community members respond to emergencies as promptly as possible. CPR courses are scheduled upon request.

Stop the Bleed

The Stop the Bleed course is designed to teach the three methods of bleeding control through interactive learning, demonstrations and classroom instruction.

Health Care Begins With Me

For students and other individuals interested in pursuing careers in health care, we offer our Health Care Begins With Me course. The course, offered in partnership with the Northeast Indiana Healthcare Consortium, exposes participants to a wide range of medical careers.

Junior Achievement JobSpark

Cameron partners with Junior Achievement through the organization’s JobSpark initiative. With Cameron’s support, JobSpark introduces students to a variety of medical professions and career opportunities.

Lunch and Learn Lectures

Professional development and ongoing learning is a goal for all Cameron employees. Our Lunch and Learn Lecture series is open to all employees and features opportunities to learn about Cameron services.
